Consultation

“What happens if you wake up?” he says.
“I’ll be awake,” she says. 
“Don’t they put you out?” he says.
“They stick you in the spine,” she says. ”I won’t feel anything.”
“Will you be able to see it?” he says.
“They put up a curtain type thing,” she says.
The man puts four cubes of ice into his glass.
“I mean you definitely feel something,” she says.
She smiles at the man from the table.
“Like a bunch of animals tugging at a dead carcass,” she says.
The man leaves his glass on the counter. He walks past the woman and out into the yard.
